Coming Soon! I havent been as buried as my fellow premed Chris S., 11, whos working on a thesis right now, but the pre-finals frenzy (read: cramming assignments into the two to three weeks before finals) means that I also need to make a few promises on future content. Quite a lot has been compressed into these past few weeks and thats not even including classes, which we can assume is a constant, akin to death and taxes. Naturally, almost all of this will be going up on the blogs quite soon, but first, a brief taste of what to expect from me over the coming weeks: Famous people at MIT: Yes, we have a number of Nobel laureates, but every now and then, we invite some other talented and generally exciting people to campus. And then there are those who just wind up on campus through some other events.Im not one to spoil a surprise, but Ill be covering about three or four of those people. Just this week, weve had an activist, a former attorney general, a local actor, and an astronaut come to the Institute. And, quite notably, I was able to outcreep the ever-lovable Elizabeth, 13, by snapping a picture of one of these people in uncomfortably close range. Even if you can take a guess on who they are, you havent heard much about it until youve heard it from an MIT student and a blogger. So yeah. Edit, from not even one minute after I posted this originally: Matt McGann already told you who the actor was. But I didnt see Mark Wahlberg anyway, so there. I still get to talk about the mystery celebrity whom I photographed at really close range. The FSILGD Challenge: This ones likely to go up very soon, as the awards ceremony took place last week. In a nutshell, Amanda D., a sophomore at MIT and a course 15 major, has worked with MITs Public Service Center to bring a new philanthropic challenge to MITs living communities.The stories told by some of the participating fraternities, sororities, and dorms are a great look at how one can maintain the work/everything else balance that is so desired at a place like MIT. Finding a UROP A Freshmans Take: You may recall that my search for a UROP has been going on intermittently ever since IAP. In fact, I was able to get a taste of neuroscience research with a post-doc at the Saxe Lab, but since Dr. Liane Young will be relocating to Boston College over the summer, Ive had my hands full in chasing another summer research position down.As far as my summer prospects go, my search is nearing its conclusion. And now, for the obligatory suspense: Did I find another UROP? Will I be working in a Brain and Cognitive Sciences lab, or somewhere else? Do I even get to be paid for this stuff? And how hard is it to land a research position in the first place? All of these questions and more! will be answered once I get to this post. The Perks of Being Course 9: To be convincingly argued once Ive become a fully-fledged member of the department. I dropped off my declaration of major form earlier this week, but the emails welcoming me to the Brain and Cognitive Sciences major have yet to roll in. But honestly, course 9 by itself is just awesome, so I dont expect this goal to be too challenging for me :p Studying a ton for 5.12, and doing a 9.00 essay / laundry. Wait, that sounds like my actual to-do list If you guys have anything else youd like to know about MIT life, put a few ideas down on the comments! Im always looking for new things to explore, if only because itll preserve my soul from the fatigue induced by a rigorous course load. It is the intention to build knowledge on the marketing planning process and how this is successfully implemented in market- and competitororiented organisations that include profit-oriented companies, government and the not-for-profit sector. Internet access is mandatory for this unit with all students as all lectures and learning material is provided on it and all students are expected to frequently check with the MIBT portal for ongoing course activities. Tutorial exercises will be given to students to complete on a weekly basis during the Trimester. Learning in this unit is aided by an enthusiastic and experienced teaching team. They will monitor the classroom during week days throughout the trimester in order to engage with students, facilitate discussions of key concepts, and clarify any unit content and to make announcements. Class room discussions and experiences are a unique aid in understanding marketing concepts. The input of students will significantly help the understanding of critical marketing concepts by sharing their experiences and opinions. Furthermore, it will aid the students by offering examples of actually marketing experiences and make the classes more enjoyable. Students can only sit tests in the class they are enrolled in. If a student completes the test in another class, it will not be marked and the student will get a zero for that piece of assessment. Assessment reviews / appeals Students may appeal against the mark/grade awarded in any component of their assessment. The appeal must relate to the assessment procedures and not simply dissatisfaction with the final grade given. Appeals will be considered by the unit co-ordinator and a recommendation made to the MIBT Academic Progress Committee. Late submission of assignments Extension of an assignment submission date If there is a compelling reason why you are unable to complete your assignment before the due date you should complete a Request for Extension of Assignment Due Date form, available from the Student Portal under Students / Forms and submit it to your lecturer. This must be done at least 24 hours before the assignment due date. If you submit your assignment without an approved extension, penalties for late submission will apply. She knows confessing and accusing other people of associating with the Devil wi ll allow her to be saved too. At the end of Act I, Abigail says:† I saw Goody Hawkins with the Devil†¦ I saw Goody Booth with the Devil! (Miller, 48) Afterwards, Abigail starts to gain more power because people believe she has the ability to see who has associated with the Devil. Abigail abuses her power to accuse even more innocent people. One day, Elizabeth Proctor finds out that Abigail accused her of practicing witchcraft. She says to John: â€Å"It is her dearest hope, John, I know it. There be a thousand names; why does she call mine? She thinks to take my place, John. † (Miller, 61) This shows that Abigail is accusing Elizabeth because she is spiteful that Elizabeth is married to John. Many other people are accused and eventually, those who are accused but do not confess are put to death. The power and influence Abigail has over the people of Salem has resulted in the death and misery of many people. Her false accusations made the court suspicious of the accused victims. Those who didn’t want to lie to the judges, such as John Proctor and Martha Corey are hung. However, â€Å"twenty years after the last execution, the government awarded compensation to the victims still living, and to the families of the dead. This means all of the people who were executed or convicted were punished wrongfully. Abigail is indirectly responsible for the death of many citizens of Salem. If she hasn’t practiced witchcraft or accused people, the witchcraft hysteria in Salem wouldn’t have started. Abigail is a hypocrite who falsely accuses others of practicing witchcraft while committing countless sins herself. Her influence over the people of Salem has caused the death of many innocent people. Ultimately, she is the villain of â€Å"The Crucible†.
